A tiny shady rain garden in the south side of Chicago

This tiny rain garden basin captures the water from the downspout and keeps the precious water in the earth rather than dumping it into the storm sewer.

The Plantain Leaved Sedge, Carex plantaginea, (bottom center) has broad leaves and black, shiny glossy seedheads in the Spring. It is a beautiful plant.

Ths garden was planted in the Fall of 2008. The photo was taken in June of 2009.

The owner in an excellent steward and keep the garden neat, tidy and weed free.
