A tiny rain garden in Darien, Illinois

The tiny vivid flowers of Stout Blue-eyed Grass, Sisyrinchium angustifolium, go nicely with the pink filaments of the Prairie Smoke, Geum triflprum, seed heads. Small prairie plants are not very common and are extremely valuable in a garden setting.

See how pretty the feathered leaf of the Prairie Smoke is. Flowers are not the only thing that add beauty to a garden. Look beyond the flowers to the leaves and seed heads and maybe even colored and interesting stems. Native plants are very subtle.
